Famous Palaces in India
Lake Palace, Udaipur
The Lake Palace is located on the Jag Niwas Island situated in the
middle of Lake Pichola, covers the whole of 1.5 hectare of the island.
The Lake Palace of Udaipur is one of the finest examples of Oriental
workmanship. Built by the Sisodias in the 17th century, it was meant as
a royal summer palace and now converted in to a five star palace hotel.
The palace is characterised by luxury and splendour – which
was the hallmark of the Rajputs in the medieval ages.
Jaivilas Palace
Situated in Gwalior, the Jai Vilas Palace resembles a quaint
Mediterranean resort. It was was constructed for the residence of
Maharaja Scindia at the cost of about Rs. 19 lac during 1861 to 1874.
This is made in a big garden decorated by shady trees and beautiful
roads. On all the four sides there are lakes and lawns and flower beds
which make the sight very attractive.
Umaid Bhavan Palace,
Jodhpur
Maharaja Umaid Singhji who built this palace was fascinated with
western lifestyles. It ranks as one of the world's largest residences!
The impression the 347 room palace leaves you with, is that of romance
juxtaposed alongside beauty. It also conjures inside you a nostalgia
for the glory days of the Rajputs.
Chail Palace
Chail Palace was built as a summer retreat by the flamboyant Maharaja
of Patiala in the late 19th century. Now it has now been converted into
a hotel. Lying on the Shivalik slopes of Chailitis, the palace is a
fine example of elegance, opulence and comfort. The hotel porch faces
Shimla and at night its lights are visible.
